Launching a new scan

Running scans is a crucial step in the security assessment process, allowing you to identify and address vulnerabilities within your web applications. There are multiple ways to start a scan. This guide shows you how to launch a new scan using the New Scan button.

It is imperative to refrain from scanning a website without appropriate authorization. Undertaking such action may result in your IP address and all Acunetix-initiated attacks being logged in the web server records. If you are not the exclusive administrator of the website or web application, it is essential to notify other administrators prior to initiating a scan. It should be noted that certain scans have the potential to induce website crashes, necessitating a restart of the website.

How to launch a New scan

Once you have configured your Targets, you are prepared to launch scans.

  1. From the Acunetix header, click New Scan.

  1. Using the checkboxes, select the Targets you would like to scan.

  1. Click Scan in the upper right-hand corner. You are now able to configure the scans.

  1. Select your preferred Scan Profile and Report. For more information, refer to Default Scan profiles, and Types of Acunetix reports documents.
  2. Select your preferred scan Schedule. Refer to the documents listed below for instructions on scheduling each type of scan:
  • Instant scan - provides a quick and efficient way to detect and address potential vulnerabilities in real-time
  • Future scan - allows you to plan a scan for a specific date and time in advance
  • Recurrent scan - allows you to set up automated scanning routines to execute at predefined intervals on specified days
  • Continuous scan - conducts daily scans to identify and report any newly discovered vulnerabilities plus a weekly full scan
  • Incremental scan - selectively scans only newly discovered or modified pages
  1. Select the I confirm that I am fully authorised to scan the selected target checkbox and click Create Scan.

The scan will initiate automatically according to the set schedule. You can access the scan results by clicking on the relevant target from the list of scans on the Scans page. Refer to the Reviewing scan results document for more information.
