WordPress has named version 3.5 “Elvin” in honor of Elvin Jones. Jones played drums with the classic John Coltrane Quartet from 1960 until 1965, a group that also included pianist McCoy Tyner and bassist Jimmy Garrison. He also toured with Duke Ellington and led his own band, Elvin Jones’ Jazz Machine, throughout the 90s. Jones was so dedicated to playing the drums that later in his life, when his health began to fail, he would sometimes play while hooked to an oxygen tank.
